Former Steelers RB cut by CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks — where will comeback bid take him now?

A former Steeler’s latest comeback bid has sadly ended — as the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks announced the release of RB Jaylen Samuels.

Samuels, who was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, spent three seasons with the Steelers before he was released — and was added almost immediately to the Texans’ practice squad in October of 2021.

After signing a future/reserve contract with the Cardinals in January of 2022, he was released about four months later.

Following failed stints in the XFL and UFL, Samuels held out hope that the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks would mark the start of his football comeback — but he was unfortunately released as part of the final roster cuts before their 2025 season began.

If Samuels still envisions a football future for himself, trying out for another CFL or UFL team may be his best bet — but best wishes are in order for whatever lies ahead for the ex-Steelers running back.
