Noah Wyle might be discovering his fursona in the upcoming sophomore season of The Pitt. The next shift for the emergency staff at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital will take place on the Fourth of July holiday weekend. What else is happening on that weekend in Pittsburgh? Oh, just a little thing called a Furry Convention. During an FYC panel at the Warner Bros Studio Lot On May 28, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill shared that he’s already pitched a furry-related twist to the writers’ room. When asked if he had anything to tease for season two, he said that because the show takes place over the course of a 15-hour shift, they “only begun to scratch the surface” of these characters and can avoid traditional drama tropes like “weather machine” or “evil twin.” Well, that’s before Wyle jumped in to tell everyone Gemmill did “pitch evil twin, technically.” Gemmill further explained his plan was different than the typical evil twin scheme: “The idea was at the very end, one of the furries comes in and we’re going to take their hood off and it’s Noah, without a beard, and it’s his brother— it’s just like the end of the show.” Okay, considering that a Wyle, evil furry twin, would be crazy, it sounded like it won’t be happening for season two. “Didn’t go over in the room as well as I thought it would,” Gemmill said dejectedly. Boo!
The roots of the furry in The Pitt storyline have been running around online for the past few months. While at a chat at Carnegie Mellon University, a fan asked show director John Wells if he knew a furry convention was happening in Pittsburgh on July 4th. “I can tell you right now that if they aren’t, they will be by the time I get back!” he replied, now confirming his message got across to the writing staff. This better not awaken anything in him.
