Steelers rookie RB Kaleb Johnson is apparently way faster than everyone is giving him credit for.
Johnson, who ran a rather pedestrian 4.57 40-yard dash time, has continually had to alleviate concerns surrounding his true top speed. PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh brought Johnson’s comments at OTAs to light — as the Steelers rookie claimed that not only is he fast — he’s 22 MPH fast:
“Last time I checked, I hit 22 miles per hour.”
For reference, two of the fastest NFL wide receivers — DK Metcalf and Tyreek Hill — have recorded top speeds in a similar MPH range — a feat that, if Johnson can replicate with pads on, could make him one of the most dangerous running backs in the league.
Here’s to hoping that Johnson’s 22 MPH talk translates into on-the-field production in 2025 — as the rookie RB will compete with Steelers RBs Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell for rushing opportunities.
