History said the Pittsburgh Steelers don’t lose to the Cleveland Browns in Pittsburgh and the Steelers don’t lose coming off a bye week. So with all that, along with how the season has gone for both teams so far this season, no one should be terribly surprised the Steelers blow out the Browns 23-9. Here are our big takeaways from the win.
Arthur Smith has a plan for Aaron Rodgers
It might seem like the Steelers don’t know what they are doing with Rodgers at this point but this is all by design. Rodgers is 41 years old and while the Steelers are 4-1, the meat of the schedule doesn’t hit until late October so it’s clear OC Arthur Smith is keeping him healthy for the second half of the season.
Questionable penalties out of character this season
It was surprising to see the Steelers get nine penalties but two neutral zone infractions by EDGE T.J. Watt left us scratching our heads.
Steelers defensive intensity was evident
All game long the Steelers defense never let its foot off the gas and you could see this group was not going to lose to a rookie quarterback. The defense sacked Dillon Gabriel six times and his him 16 times.
Maybe the Steelers don’t need another wide receiver
Only one receiver had a target in Sunday’s win other than DK Metcalf. Roman Wilson had one catch and that was it. But for now, the Steelers seem content to feed Metcalf and just use the running backs and tight ends as outlet options for Rodgers to keep drives alive.
